ORHMA Partners with ECOLAB to Provide Bed Bug Information and Services to Ontario's Hospitality Industry

The Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association (ORMHA) and Ecolab Inc. are partnering to provide an information and services program to help with the growing concern of bed bugs in Ontario’s hospitality industry. The program, based on Ecolab’s industry-leading knowledge and expertise with bed bugs, offers guidelines and materials to help hospitality staff understand bed bug-related issues, respond to customer questions and provides training on how to deal with the pests.

“The association recognizes the important role of supporting Ontario’s hospitality industry,” said Tony Elenis, ORHMA president and CEO. “This bed bug initiative is a great resource for lodging operators. It will help them understand the problem, the steps necessary to ensure bed bugs are eliminated if a sighting occurs and helps keep their guests safe. This is a ’one-stop-shop’ for bed bug information that’s easy to access and simple to understand. Supporting The Fight Against Bed Bugs

The province's 36 public health units will be able to apply for Provincial funding to support bed bug-related programs that emphasize coordination with other local services, education and awareness and/or provide supports to vulnerable populations.  A total of $5 million will be invested by the province to support these programs.

In addition, a new public education website featuring tools has been launched to give Ontarians a one-stop-shop to get accurate information and simple, easy-to-use tips to combat infestations.  The province is also distributing a guide, An Integrated Pest Management Program for Managing Bed Bugs, to stakeholders on how to identify bed bug infestations, perform inspections properly, prepare living areas for treatment and carry out pest treatments.
