G20 Summit Compensation Package Dear Member, The federal government has set the terms for compensation for G20 Summit related issues. The ORHMA has met several times with the Summit organizers, written several letters to the government as well as an open letter to the government given to the media. Our message has been simple and clear that the time limit to submit the application needs to be extended, the coverage broadened to include vandalism as well as the lost wages of staff not just lost revenue from sales. The need for compensation is not as a result of anything our members could have done to avoid those issues. The need is real and immediate. We have repeatedly explained the tight margins and limited cash flow issues to the federal government. It is our hope that they will respond positively in due course. Until that time, the application form, guidelines and frequently asked questions stand as they were published. We will post a notice immediately should this change. Here is the Application Form, Frequently Asked Questions Document along with the Guidelines Book to assist in putting together your package for compensation from the federal government. Should you need assistance in completing the package, the ORHMA has negotiated a deal with lawyer Adam Vassos to offer his services with an ORHMA member discount. Adam can be reached: Adam M. Vassos Below is a note from the Federal Government on the Compensation Process: Payments on an Ex Gratia Basis Although the Government is not legally bound to pay compensation for losses suffered as a result of international meetings held in Canada there are precedents where compensation has been provided to those impacted by security measures of previous international summits. The administration and coordination of all requests for information on Payments on an Ex Gratia Basis to mitigate adverse financial consequences as a result of extraordinary security measures put in place for the G20 Summit in Toronto is under the responsibility of the Summit Management Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs. All persons concerned are invited to read the relevant Guidelines, frequently asked questions and the Claim Form within the time-frame stated in the Guidelines. The assessment of all claims will be made in close cooperation with Audit Services Canada, a special operating agency reporting to Public Works and Government Services Canada. Payments will be administered in accordance with Treasury Board Policy on Claims and Ex Gratia Payments and the Financial Administration Act. For any other question on matters not referred to in the above-mentioned documents (Guidelines and Claim Form), the Summit Management Office has activated a toll-free telephone number: 1-877-750-6042 Again, please watch this site for any changes to the process should they come along. Any updates will be noted in a way to draw your attention. Thanks, Peter Adams Director of Communications, Corporate and Public Affairs ORHMA ORHMA
