Windsor-Detroit Border Issues
The provincial and federal governments have committed $300 million dollars to improve the Windsor-Detroit border crossing. One of the proposals is to create a bypass route that would divert border traffic from downtown streets. This would have devastating effects for Windsor foodservice and accommodation businesses. As part of its lobbying efforts on this issue, the Association arranged a meeting with the Premier's Office to discuss the proposed Windsor Gateway infrastructure project. In attendance were key decision-makers within the Premier's Office. ORHMA President, Terry Mundell and ORHMA Board member, Rob Evans, were attended to express the concerns of the hospitality industry in the Windsor region. It is expected that the provincial government will endorse a solution that would facilitate border traffic, divert transport trucks off local streets and maintain car traffic through the downtown core.
