Marcel Beaubien's Final Report on Property Assessment and Classification Review was released earlier this week. The report dealt, in part, with the issue of suite and condo hotels. There have been discrepancies in how accommodation properties have been classified. Some are classified at the residential rate, others at the multi-residential rate and still others at the commercial rate. The report recommends that all hotel operations be included in the commercial property class, in effect leveling the playing field. This report was submitted to the Minister of Finance and the Association will be focusing its continuing efforts on this issue at this level. The Government is expected to announce further changes on this issue in the near future.
