URGENT -- Free Seminar On Toronto Zoning and How It Affects Your Restaurant

The ORHMA’s Toronto Region is hosting a special FREE meeting or seminar on the New City of Toronto’s Comprehensive Zoning By-Law and what every restaurant owner needs to know.  The Toronto Zoning Seminar will feature expert speakers on the new rules and how they could seriously impact your restaurant.  Toronto’s New Comprehensive Zoning By-Law is seen as a potential new template for every other town and city in Ontario to copy.

This is an extremely important seminar to attend for all Toronto restaurants regardless of where they are located.  The expert speakers include lawyer David Bronskill from Goodmans LLP as well as planner Michael Bissett from Bousfields Inc.  Together they will explain the changes and the impact on restaurants across the City.  The seminar will be approximately one hour long with a short question and answer session.  Those in attendance will be told what steps they need to take to best protect their restaurant before the new rules pass Council later in August (this month).  The experts will explain the changes anticipated in the new by-law, how it could pose problems if you plan to sell, finance or alter your restaurant starting as soon as this fall.

The one hour seminar is timed for you to attend.  There is no cost to attend this seminar.   Our goal is to get the information into your hands as soon as possible.  The City of Toronto is set to pass this new zoning by-law on August 25th.  Make sure you or your representative is able to join us next Monday, August 23rd at 10 am at the Radisson Admiral Hotel on the waterfront (249 Queen's Quay West).  There is no cost to register for this event.  Non-members are welcome.  For your complimentary registration please send an email to info@orhma.com.  Plan to arrive a few minutes early to ensure your participation.

Rossi, Smitherman and Soon Ford Meet With Operators From Toronto Region

The Toronto Region of the ORHMA is host an ongoing series of events featuring the leading candidates for Mayor of Toronto.  To date Rocco Rossi met with the Toronto Region gang earlier this summer and George Smitherman met with the gang most recently to discuss his plans should he become Mayor of Toronto.

All leading candidates have been sent a questionnaire with 5 questions of relevance to the restaurant community.  Each candidate will be asked to support the ORHMA’s call to vote down the new City of Toronto Comprehensive Zoning By-law.

To date both candidates Rossi and Smitherman have indicated that they will scrap the document.  In both cases, the candidates were well received and answered questions freely.  Many in attendance were impressed with both candidates and appreciated the opportunity to hear first hand how they would deal with issues of concern to the hospitality industry.

The pictures show George Smitherman at the summer time event.  George was very interested in listening to feedback and in asserting his plan should he become Mayor.  At the time of our meeting he was half way through his walk across Eglinton.  He related stories from the campaign trail to highlight his commitment to consensus building and took care to answer every question.

The next event in the series will feature candidate for Mayor, Rob Ford.  For more information on how to participate email Jason Cheskes by clicking here.
