Current Advocacy
Ontario’s hospitality industry continues to face growing public safety and crime-related challenges that impact businesses, employees, guests, and overall visitor experiences. Hotels, restaurants, and tourism operators are increasingly navigating issues related to human trafficking, auto theft, vandalism, theft, violent incidents, and broader community safety concerns.
Through ongoing engagement with hospitality operators across the province, ORHMA recognizes that crime prevention and community safety have become critical industry priorities. In response, ORHMA continues to advocate for stronger collaboration between government, law enforcement, municipalities, and the hospitality sector to improve safety measures, enhance support resources, and strengthen local visitor economies.
ORHMA is advocating for:
- Increased provincial support and funding for policing and community safety initiatives
- Stronger partnerships between hospitality operators and local law enforcement
- Enhanced industry education, training, and crime prevention resources
- Coordinated strategies to address issues impacting tourism and hospitality hubs across Ontario
As part of these efforts, ORHMA has worked collaboratively with municipalities, police services, and regional hospitality partners to advance practical safety solutions. This includes initiatives such as the ORHMA Community Safety & Crime Prevention Symposium, developed in partnership with Peel Regional Police, focused on human trafficking awareness, auto theft prevention, and operational safety within the hospitality sector.
